My Kick on Our 1st Housewarming Party

So June passed by without any post, sadly, but the good news is we got the house renovation (almost) done! Everything is in place, furniture’s where they’re supposed to be, and my writing desk is set up on the kitchen nook where I can grab snacks easily. Yumm!

Speaking of snacks, my husband and I just had our first housewarming party last Saturday. Our first time as host, too! Everything went quite smoothly considering the fact that we had to cook the food that morning. It was frantic, and surely there’s a lot of room for improvements. Nonetheless, we managed to put up some simple decorations!

Idea of using paint chips came from Google as I tried to look for inspiration. Since we painted the whole house, this idea fits perfectly well. Voila, the color of my choice!

As I’ve spent hours and days scrubbing the floors, this house is officially off-shoes. The previous owner left some chalk boards for when their grandkids came to visit, and we used one of them to write the message for guests.

We served veggie tray with sour cream/mayo/dill dips for appetizer and although it didn’t came out great, my grandma’s Shrimp & Corn Fritter came to the front of line as one of the favorite. We served them on our buffet table.

I wanted it to be Indonesian/Chinese themed food, as we are the only Indonesian on our group of friends. We had dim sum that was bought frozen at local Vietnamese market, that turned out (thankfully) decent. Spam fried rice is my go-to recipe for overnight rice as they give them extra kick of flavor!

Chinese food won’t be complete without some stir fry, so I made my usual Chicken & Broccoli Stir Fry. I got the black and white tag card, the napkin, and the yellow card stand at Hobby Lobby. They’re just a perfect match with the Crockpot we got at Walmart for a steal! Why Yellow? Because the other side of the dining/kitchen area is a yellow accent wall (aka. my office)!

The only authentic Indonesian food on this table would be the Meat, Indonesian Beef Stew known as ‘Semur’. It has a sweet broth from sweet soy sauce that gets spicy overtime with the added whole Thai chili. Two of our friends cried and asked for milk when they accidentally bite them! Sorry, guys, but I’ve warned ya!

No party is complete without dessert! I wanted to serve berries with Creme Fraiche but couldn’t find it at our local market and had no time to make them. So we used regular whipped cream and flavored them with lemon just before scooping them on top of brownie crumble made the previous day, then topped with blueberries, raspberry, and mints. Isn’t it pretty?

Whilst pretty is important, taste buds couldn’t lie and there’s nothing better than these gigantic cookies I bake the previous night. I got the recipe from Lisa on her website Parsleysagesweet where she experimented on making copycat of the famous Levain Bakery chocolate chip cookies. Cookies We used our kitchen counter to display the drinks, Peach Iced Tea with slices of fresh oranges and lemons. Okay, there’s no ice in there to prevent it from being too watery. We served the ice just on a mixing bowl next to it, and on a cooler box below the counter, also filled with different kinds of beer our friends brought over.

Last but not least, there has been some confusion between exit to the garage with my pantry door. So we scribble some directions on the existing chalk paint in between those doors. Directions Thanks to Hobby Lobby we managed to create a cohesive design using yellow as the guide. We also got the striped straw and windmills there, tying up inside out decorations. Below I will list my simple party menu. Appetizer: Veggie Tray with Dill Dip – I’d change that to a hummus next time Snack: Shrimp & Corn fritter, Dim Sum that consists of Shu Mai and Har Gow Main: Spam Fried Rice, Chicken & Broccoli Stir Fry, ‘Semur’ Beef Stew Dessert: Deconstructed Brownies with Lemon Cream and Berries, Walnut Chocolate Chip Cookies Drinks: Lipton Peach Lemon Tea, variety of beers – I’d change the tea to Lipton Iced Lemon tea instead, as they’re more refreshing for summer months. And… We forgot to serve the wine -_-” Food Oh, we also had a game where everyone needs to gather a numbered sticker from moving company and the first one to get 15 stickers will get something. It was hilarious to see our friends going all over the place and help us clean our stuff off the stickers! I also posted a fresh coconut picture the day before and the first one to guess what food has that in it will get extra cookies! Cookies? So, are you having a 4th of July party? I’d say today’s weather is perfect for BBQ. Please share some! Thanks for reading my post and have a nice long weekend and happy 4th, y’all! I’ll post some of the recipe soon!
